PerkinElmer Unveils L3D Solutions at Sensor + Test

PerkinElmer has launched the new L3D low light level detection solutions at the 17th yearly Sensor + Test 2010 exhibition in Germany. The suite of L3D solutions can be used for various applications that enhance human and environmental health. These applications include fluorescence and luminescence, nucleic acid amplification, research and scientific instrumentation, confocal microscopy, molecular/PET imaging and particle sizing.

These new line of products leverage various photon detection products and technologies of the company that include single photon counting modules, silicon photomultipliers, avalanche photodiodes and channel photomultipliers. These solutions are suitable for challenging situations in clinical diagnostics, analytical instrumentation and molecular imaging.

Single Photon Counting Module

One of the highlights of L3D solutions at the Sensor + Test fair is the new Si-APD that features short wavelength. This large-area Si-APD can be used in demanding fluorescence detection and molecular imaging applications. The company will also showcase its Single Photon Counting Modules (SPCMs) that offer very low dark noise and high Photon Detection Efficiencies (PDE). These features enable the SPCM to be used in particle sizing, time-correlated single photon counting and confocal microscopy applications.

The new Gigahertz Photon Detection Module (GPDM) to be displayed at the show has been designed for use in clinical and analytical diagnoses under low light situations. This GPDM provides high dynamic range in very low noise and single operating mode. Another highlight from the company is the silicon photomultipliers (SiPMs) technology that provides PDE at record-setting level and a very short response time. PerkinElmer had recently signed an agreement with Max Planck Innovation to license the SiPM technology, which offers high-speed and low cross-talk. These SiPMs act as a solid-state substitute to conventional PMTs, offering OEMs better cost and sensitivity.
