ADTRAN, which specialises in providing next-generation networking solutions, has announced that it will increase the (FTTH) capacity for GPON and Active Ethernet applications of its Total Access 5000 Multi-Service Access and Aggregation platform by double.

Each chassis of the Total Access 5000 will now be able to support 5,376 users of GPON and 504 users of Active Ethernet. A single Optical Network Terminal (ONT) will provide auto-sensing capabilities to the Total Access 5000 and simplify installations for GPON and Ethernet.
Since FTTH capacity can differ based on area, type of carrier there is a need for the introduction of a product that can be flexible and scalable according to the customer demands. The Total Access 5000 has the capability of accommodating a single slot Active Ethernet card with 24 ports thus achieving high densities of GPON and Ethernet. All the above features enables the Total Access 5000 to cater to advanced gaming , video, voice and data services for residential purposes and other cloud-based services.
According to Richard Cavin, Senior Network Manager, Valley Telephone, the enhancing of the capacity of Total Access 5000 and the addition of the 24-port single slot Ethernet card, has enabled the company to serve more number of customers from a single chassis without the addition of complex features. ADTRAN provides more than 1,700 data, internet, video and voice solutions to customers across the world.
